PROJECT DETAILS

MYAKKA RIVER STATE PARK RESTAURANT/ RETAIL

Location:

Sarasota, FL

Size:

6,500 SF

Status:

Completed  2009

This newly constructed concession building is located in one of Florida’s largest and most diverse natural areas.  Located in the heart of the 58 square mile preserve, the concession building serves as a restaurant and gift shop for school groups, tourists, local societies, the general public, and more.  The facility is also designed to educate the public about native Florida habitats, wildlife, flora and fauna, and will also provide canoe and kayak rentals for field visits and research opportunities.  The concession building is built up on pilings ten feet above grade level, attempting not to distrust the natural habitat of the park.  These vernacular- styled structures have the appearance of floating, or “tip-toeing,” above the sensitive site.
